by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 23.11

देवाभिनिर्मितानि नभे तरुणादित्यमण्डलनिभानि ।
तपनीयकिंकिणीयारुचिरा वरनन्दिघोषाणि ॥ ११ ॥

devābhinirmitāni nabhe taruṇādityamaṇḍalanibhāni |
tapanīyakiṃkiṇīyārucirā varanandighoṣāṇi || 11 ||

These had been made by devas, and shone like the orb of the newly-risen sun in the sky. They were filled with brightly -shining, sweetly-tinkling bells. (11)
