by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 21.73

एतं श्रुत्वा वचनं अष्टसहस्रं महेश्वरवराणां ।
प्रविशन्ति पार्थिवकुलं अनिहतकुलवंशमुख्यस्य ॥ ७३ ॥

etaṃ śrutvā vacanaṃ aṣṭasahasraṃ maheśvaravarāṇāṃ |
praviśanti pārthivakulaṃ anihatakulavaṃśamukhyasya || 73 ||

When they had heard this word, the eight-thousand Maheshvaras entered the royal palace of the chief of his unconquered line. (73)
