Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 21.66

अन्यं च दानि अद्भुतं शरीरच्छाया न दृश्यते तेषां ।
न च तेषु सन्धिशब्दो चंक्रमतां श्रूयते कश्चित् ॥ ६६ ॥

anyaṃ ca dāni adbhutaṃ śarīracchāyā na dṛśyate teṣāṃ |
na ca teṣu sandhiśabdo caṃkramatāṃ śrūyate kaścit || 66 ||

“And here is another marvellous thing. No shadows are seen cast by their bodies, and no accompanying noise is heard as they move along. (66)
