This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 21.49

sabālārkaśaṃkhapratīkāśavarṇaṃ varaṃ hemacchatraṃ nabhe dhārayensuḥ |
tato vījanīyo visṛṣṭā bhramensuḥ kareṇa gṛhītvā jinaṃ vījayensuḥ || 49 ||

They held up in the sky a fair and golden sunshade, gleaming like a shell in the sunshine, whilst they waved cunningly fashioned fans in their hands as they fanned the Conqueror. (49)
