This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 21.45

एषा प्रसूष्यति नरेन्द्रवधूत्तमं तं वत्सं विबुद्धवरपुष्करगर्भगौरं ।
यो प्राप्स्यते धरणिमण्डगतोत्तमार्थं मारं निहत्य सबलं तम् उपेमि वीरं ॥ ४५ ॥

eṣā prasūṣyati narendravadhūttamaṃ taṃ vatsaṃ vibuddhavarapuṣkaragarbhagauraṃ |
yo prāpsyate dharaṇimaṇḍagatottamārthaṃ māraṃ nihatya sabalaṃ tam upemi vīraṃ || 45 ||

The consort of the king is about to give birth to that peerless offspring who is bright like the calyx of the blossoming lotus. Here on earth he will win the highest good, overcoming Mara and his power. It is to this hero that I repair. (45)
