by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 20.78

चतुरो पि लोकपाला रक्षाम् अकरिन्सु लोकनाथस्य ।
मा कोची अहितैषी नमुचिबलनुदं विहिंसेय ॥ ७८ ॥

caturo pi lokapālā rakṣām akarinsu lokanāthasya |
mā kocī ahitaiṣī namucibalanudaṃ vihiṃseya || 78 ||

The Four Lords of the world, also, watched over the world’s saviour, lest any malevolent being harm him who is destined to rout the power of Namuci. (78)
