This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 20.10

ये च नृपतिनां वेश्मस्थानि रत्नकरण्डका ।
रतनं पुरुषश्रेष्ठा भाजनं जिनमातर इति ॥ १० ॥

ye ca nṛpatināṃ veśmasthāni ratnakaraṇḍakā |
ratanaṃ puruṣaśreṣṭhā bhājanaṃ jinamātara iti || 10 ||

[To take an illustration from] the jewel-caskets which are found in the palaces of princes, the Best of Men is the jewel, his mother the casket. (10)
