by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 19.102

यत् तस्य परिकर्म तत् कृतं पन महर्षिणा ।
तम् आहुर् उपहारो ति सर्वधर्मविशारदाः ॥ १०२ ॥

yat tasya parikarma tat kṛtaṃ pana maharṣiṇā |
tam āhur upahāro ti sarvadharmaviśāradāḥ || 102 ||

Such a service as was then rendered by the great Seer is called an upahara by those expert in philosophy. (102)
