Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 19.7

सो तं च दर्शनं प्राप्य जनतां सन्निपातयेत् ।
स्वकां दृष्टिं समाख्याति पश्चाच् च न निवर्तते ॥ ७ ॥

so taṃ ca darśanaṃ prāpya janatāṃ sannipātayet |
svakāṃ dṛṣṭiṃ samākhyāti paścāc ca na nivartate || 7 ||

Having come to this belief he assembled his people and preached to them his own views, nor did he afterwards abandon his belief. (7)
