Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 19.2

तथा परं मेरुतटे समागतां स वादिसिंहो वशिनां वशी वशी ।
परोपहारं भगवां स भिक्षुसंघस्य तं इदम् अवचा महामुनिर् इति ॥ २ ॥

tathā paraṃ merutaṭe samāgatāṃ sa vādisiṃho vaśināṃ vaśī vaśī |
paropahāraṃ bhagavāṃ sa bhikṣusaṃghasya taṃ idam avacā mahāmunir iti || 2 ||

In the same way the lion-hearted speaker, the master of those who have won self-mastery, produced another apparition for those assembled on the slopes of Mount Meru, and the Exalted One, the great sage, told of it to his brotherhood of monks. (2)
