This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 18.76

यो यस्य स्वर अभिमतः सा तं पूरयति तस्य संकल्पं ।
सुगतवचनप्रभूता वाचा परिषदि विचरमाणा ॥ ७६ ॥

yo yasya svara abhimataḥ sā taṃ pūrayati tasya saṃkalpaṃ |
sugatavacanaprabhūtā vācā pariṣadi vicaramāṇā || 76 ||

When the eloquent Sugata’s voice goes forth in the assembly, it is adequate to the need of any tone that may be desirable. (76)
