Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 18.65

दुन्दुभिरवगम्भीरा वनदेवअनिलविधूतस्वरप्रपाता ।
भूमीविक्षोभनरवा गिरा नरमरुप्रधानानां ॥ ६५ ॥

dundubhiravagambhīrā vanadevaanilavidhūtasvaraprapātā |
bhūmīvikṣobhanaravā girā naramarupradhānānāṃ || 65 ||

The utterance of the Pre-eminent of Men and devas is deep as the sound of drums; it is like the rustling of the wind-swept forest, and like the rumbling of an earthquake. (65)
