Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 18.37

लोकोत्तरा भगवतो चर्या लोकोत्तरं कुशलमूलं ।
गमनं स्थितं निषण्णं शयितं लोकोत्तरं मुनिनो ॥ ३७ ॥

lokottarā bhagavato caryā lokottaraṃ kuśalamūlaṃ |
gamanaṃ sthitaṃ niṣaṇṇaṃ śayitaṃ lokottaraṃ munino || 37 ||

The conduct of the Exalted One is transcendental, his root of virtue is transcendental. The Seer’s walking, standing, sitting and lying down are transcendental. (37)
