Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 18.27

विमुक्तिचित्तस्य विमुक्तिदर्शना अचिन्तिया तर्कपथेन निश्रिता ।
असंकिया वीरगिरा विरोचते या सा सुवेला मृदु सत्यसंभवा ॥ २७ ॥

vimukticittasya vimuktidarśanā acintiyā tarkapathena niśritā |
asaṃkiyā vīragirā virocate yā sā suvelā mṛdu satyasaṃbhavā || 27 ||

The words that proclaim emancipation of mind and reveal deliverance, are beyond thought, yet are fixed in the way of reason, sound strong and clear, are eloquent, gentle, and instinct with truth. (27)
