This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 14.18

अनुवातं मया मुक्तः धूमो देशं विनाशयेत् ।
देशिकं सह चौरेभ्यः अनुजानामि जीवितम् इति ॥ १८ ॥

anuvātaṃ mayā muktaḥ dhūmo deśaṃ vināśayet |
deśikaṃ saha caurebhyaḥ anujānāmi jīvitam iti || 18 ||

Though I could release smoke on the wind to destroy the whole land, and guide and robbers as well, yet I let them go with their lives. (18)
