This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

When bees sip the flowering creepers of the forest in spring-time, their wings become spotted with pollen, You have not heard it said, O wretched man, that the creepers still preserve their virgin freshness. Other bees do not take their pleasure there. (12)
