by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 13.26

बुद्धक्षेत्राणां शून्यानां कोटी न प्रज्ञायते ऽन्तरा ।
लोकधातूसहस्राणां कोटी न प्रज्ञायते ऽन्तरा ॥ २६ ॥

buddhakṣetrāṇāṃ śūnyānāṃ koṭī na prajñāyate 'ntarā |
lokadhātūsahasrāṇāṃ koṭī na prajñāyate 'ntarā || 26 ||

Thousands of empty Buddha-fields which one does not know where to begin counting, and thousands of universes of three-thousand worlds. (26)
