by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 12.38

पार्थिवो चैव नरपती तं कालं आसि दुर्जयो नाम ।
अपगम्य पुष्पदन्तं वन्दति पादां सपरिवारः ॥ ३८ ॥

pārthivo caiva narapatī taṃ kālaṃ āsi durjayo nāma |
apagamya puṣpadantaṃ vandati pādāṃ saparivāraḥ || 38 ||

Now there was at that time a king, a lord of men, named Durjaya, who with his train of followers approached Pushpadanta and bowed at his feet. (38)
