This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 12.8

सर्वं हितोपधानं अहं ति देमि इति पण्डितो अवची ।
एवं च भवेयम् अहं प्रणिधेसि परं प्रणिधि राजा ॥ ८ ॥

sarvaṃ hitopadhānaṃ ahaṃ ti demi iti paṇḍito avacī |
evaṃ ca bhaveyam ahaṃ praṇidhesi paraṃ praṇidhi rājā || 8 ||

“May I be active in leading across men who have entered upon the ocean of old age and death....” (8)
