This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 11.42

पूर्वभवे हि निवासे स्वदारसन्तोषसंयमाभिरतो ।
आसीच् च नराधिपती स्त्रीरतनं तेन सो लभति ॥ ४२ ॥

pūrvabhave hi nivāse svadārasantoṣasaṃyamābhirato |
āsīc ca narādhipatī strīratanaṃ tena so labhati || 42 ||

In a former existence the king was temperate in his enjoyment of his wife, and for this he wins the treasure of the woman. (42)
