by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 11.24

अतः प्रभृति भूयिष्ठा भवन्ति वदतां वराः ।
शिष्या देवातिदेवानां संबुद्धानां यशस्विनां ॥ २४ ॥

ataḥ prabhṛti bhūyiṣṭhā bhavanti vadatāṃ varāḥ |
śiṣyā devātidevānāṃ saṃbuddhānāṃ yaśasvināṃ || 24 ||

Henceforth, they become the most excellent of eloquent men, pupils of the glorious perfect Buddhas, the devas above all other devas. (24)
