by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 11.21

अतः प्रभृति या शुद्धा तां जातिम् अनुयान्ति ते ।
अतः प्रभृति यं शुद्धं तद् रूपम् अनुभवन्ति ते ॥ २१ ॥

ataḥ prabhṛti yā śuddhā tāṃ jātim anuyānti te |
ataḥ prabhṛti yaṃ śuddhaṃ tad rūpam anubhavanti te || 21 ||

Henceforth, whatever birth is pure that they do achieve, and whatever form is pure that do they win. (21)
