by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 11.8

दश कर्मपथां कुशलां सेवन्ति पुरुषोत्तमा ।
न च मन्त्रं प्रयोजेन्ति परस्य देहघातकं ॥ ८ ॥

daśa karmapathāṃ kuśalāṃ sevanti puruṣottamā |
na ca mantraṃ prayojenti parasya dehaghātakaṃ || 8 ||

“These supreme men practise the ten right ways of behaviour. They do not weave a spell to strike the person of another man. (8)
