Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 9.27

ये हि दोषेहि संयुक्ता विवर्तन्ति तथाविधा ।
ये चैवं परिवर्तन्ता न विवर्तन्ति पण्डिताः ॥ २७ ॥

ye hi doṣehi saṃyuktā vivartanti tathāvidhā |
ye caivaṃ parivartantā na vivartanti paṇḍitāḥ || 27 ||

Of both those who lapse through their faults, as related, and of those who, in their wisdom, do not lapse as they pass on from life to life. (27)
