Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 9.6

बुद्धे धर्मे च संघे च न कांक्षन्ति कथंचन ।
इति अध्याशयस् तेषां कल्याण उपदिश्यते ॥ ६ ॥

buddhe dharme ca saṃghe ca na kāṃkṣanti kathaṃcana |
iti adhyāśayas teṣāṃ kalyāṇa upadiśyate || 6 ||

In no way whatsoever do they harbour doubt of the Buddha, dharma, and Sangha. Thus is their disposition shown to be good. (6)
