Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 8.10

यश् च मे कुशलमूलसंचयो सो महा भवतु सर्वप्राणिभिः ।
यच् च कर्म अशुभं कृतं मया तत् फलं कटुकं निस्तराम्य् अहम् इति ॥ १० ॥

yaś ca me kuśalamūlasaṃcayo so mahā bhavatu sarvaprāṇibhiḥ |
yac ca karma aśubhaṃ kṛtaṃ mayā tat phalaṃ kaṭukaṃ nistarāmy aham iti || 10 ||

“May my store of the root of goodness be great enough for all living things. Whatever evil deed has been done by me, may I alone reap its bitter fruit.” (10)
