Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 7.52

तेन दृष्टम् अचलं परं सुखं दृष्टिभिः परमसाधुदृष्टिभिः ।
तं अमत्सरवता प्रकाशितं संविभागरुचिना यद् अद् भुतं ॥ ५२ ॥

tena dṛṣṭam acalaṃ paraṃ sukhaṃ dṛṣṭibhiḥ paramasādhudṛṣṭibhiḥ |
taṃ amatsaravatā prakāśitaṃ saṃvibhāgarucinā yad ad bhutaṃ || 52 ||

“By his perfectly sound beliefs he saw the unfluctuating bliss beyond, and out of his joy in charity he ungrudgingly revealed the wonder of it. (52)
