by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 7.42

ते समग्रवरलक्षणधारी गौरवात् प्रमुदिता मरुसंघाः ।
पूजां अप्रतिमकस्य करोन्ति शासनं शृणुयु सर्वसमग्र्यं ॥ ४२ ॥

te samagravaralakṣaṇadhārī gauravāt pramuditā marusaṃghāḥ |
pūjāṃ apratimakasya karonti śāsanaṃ śṛṇuyu sarvasamagryaṃ || 42 ||

“These assembled devas, themselves characterised by noble harmony, reverently rejoice, and do honour to the Peerless One. Eager were they to hear the whole harmonious doctrine. (42)
