by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 7.25

सो निपत्य शिरसा पुनः पुनः तौ क्रमौ प्रवरचक्रलक्षणौ ।
करतलेहि अभिपीडयेत् मुने शास्तु गौरवपराय बुद्धिये ॥ २५ ॥

so nipatya śirasā punaḥ punaḥ tau kramau pravaracakralakṣaṇau |
karatalehi abhipīḍayet mune śāstu gauravaparāya buddhiye || 25 ||

Kashyapa, his mind full of the greatest reverence for the Master, fell on his face, and again and again caressed with his hands the Sage’s feet which were marked with perfect circles. (25)
