Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 7.8

सो च मत्व त्वरमाणो सूरी काश्यपो मथितमानसो भिक्षुः ।
भिक्षुभिः बहुभिः उत्तमो परि- निर्वृतभुवम् अनुपूर्वम् आगमि ॥ ८ ॥

so ca matva tvaramāṇo sūrī kāśyapo mathitamānaso bhikṣuḥ |
bhikṣubhiḥ bahubhiḥ uttamo pari- nirvṛtabhuvam anupūrvam āgami || 8 ||

When he had thus reflected, the wise Kashyapa, the monk supreme among the many monks, distressed in mind made haste and presently came to him who had won final release. (8)
