by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 2.36

ततो पार्ष्णीहि पाटेत्वा याव अधिकृकाटिकां ।
कालसूत्रस्मिं नरके बहू अपि संघट्टति ॥ ३६ ॥

tato pārṣṇīhi pāṭetvā yāva adhikṛkāṭikāṃ |
kālasūtrasmiṃ narake bahū api saṃghaṭṭati || 36 ||

Then the warders of hell (naraka) rend them from heel to neck, and many do they dash against one another in the hell Kalasutra. (36)
