Division On Mind And Mental Concomitants

The Division on Mind and Mental Concomitants is expounded in three parts in accordance with the kusala tika of the Matika, namely:

  1. Kusala Dhamma, Categories of Meritorious Thought.
  2. Akusala Dhamma, Categories of Demeritorious Thought.
  3. Abyakata Dhamma, Categories of Thought not Classified as Meritorious or Demeritorious.

In these three parts, meritorious thought is shown in relation to the various spheres of existence.

  1. Meritorious thought pertaining to the Sensuous Sphere.
  2. Meritorious thought pertaining to the Fine Material Sphere.
  3. Meritorious thought pertaining to the Non-material Sphere.
  4. Modes of meritorious thought which lead to three grades of existence in the respective spheres.
  5. Meritorious thought that leads to liberation from the three spheres of existence.
