Chapter 18i - Shes rab mgon po (Rgyal mtshan 'bum’s Disciple)

His disciple was shes rab mgon po of la stod. He belonged to the gyung clan: He was born at the monastery of lha gdon to father sangs rgyas skyabs and mother myang mo dpal Idan 'bum. At the age of four, he took up the upāsaka vows in the presence of dgon gsar pa, wore the yellow garb, learnt the alphabet, and studied ceremonies from the bla ma rgyal mtshan 'bum and others. At the age of seventeen, he became a disciple of lha gdong pa and was given the name of shes rab mgon po. At the age of nineteen, he took up the final monastic ordination from zur phug pa and the mahāupādyāya (mkhan chen) chos sdings pa, drod chung ba, the blama rin chen mgon, the blama dar bzang, mkhas grub khra pa, the sprul sku grub chen pa, mkhas btsun bsod nams ‘od zer, grub thob ‘dam zhig, the bla ma rin chen dzog pa, the blama shes rab dar, the bla ma spang dkar ba, rtogs ldan na khra ba, and rtogs ldan shag shang.

He spent immured seven years at Śrī ri (near shel bkar) and the benefit was great, though he had been endowed with a yogic insight from the age of seventeen. This great ascetic proceeded towards dbus, and followed on many teachers, such as the kar ma pa hierarch rang byung rdo rje, rig ‘dzin gzhon nu rgyal po (Kumārarāja, a famous rnying ma bla ma), and others. He stayed at shambu, gsal rje gangs and other hermitages. He laboured extensively for the welfare of living beings as far as kong po. Bla chen rin gzhon pa became his disciple. He composed also the life story of the bka' brgyud pa teachers, as well as composed several useful books. He became very famous. His accomplishments can be learnt from his detailed biography.
