[Full title: Drigung Chojay lineage (vii): bal bu gong pa (ngor rje ras pa)]

Bal bu gong pa was called so after the name of the monastery. He was also named ngor rje ras pa. He was learned in Philosophy. He visited the Dharmasvāmin (of ‘bri khung) in order to test him, but on seeing his face, he was filled with faith. He heard precepts from him and developed extraordinary faculties. He also heard numerous doctrines from the kha che paṇ chen[1] , and composed a large treatise (śāstra) called "The Heart of the Doctrine" (bstan pa'i snying po).
