Chapter 10 - Phagmodru Lineage (xi): spyan snga dpal idan bzang po ba

[Full title: Phagmodru lineage (xi): spyan snga dpal idan bzang po ba (grags pa blo gros) (1383-1407, abbot in 1405???)]

Spyan snga dpal Idan bzang po ba: He was the fourth son of the six sons of father bdag po shAk rin pa and mother zi na rin chen 'dzom pa, and was born in the year Water Female Hog (chu mo phag 1383 A.D.). At the age of 3, he took up the upāsaka vows in the presence of spyan snga grags byang ba and received the name of dpal Idan bzang po. At the age of nine, he studied the Hevajra-Tantra (brtag gnyis). At ten, he heard the exposition of the Doctrine from spyan snga kun spangs pa. He received the noviciate in the presence of the mahā-upādhyāya grags rdor ba and the ācārya zhi ba dpal, and received the name of grags pa blo gros. The bla ma chos dpal shes rab opened the gate of religion for him. At the age of 14, he preached at rtses thang the Hevajra-Tantra (brtag gnyis). At the age of 21, he acted as supervisor of those who had entered seclusion.

At the age of 22, he received the final monastic vows in the presence of the mahā-upādhyāya sang blo ba, the mahā-upādhyāya rgyal bzang pa, acting as karma-ācārya, and the mahā-upādhyāya dka’ bcu pa^[1] as Secret Preceptor. At the age of 23, in the year Wood Female Hen (shing mo bya 1405 A.D.), he received the title of spyan snga. He heard the complete precepts of the bka' brgyud doctrine from the bla chen rin gzhon pa.

For two years he maintained an assembly (of priests), and there passed away at the age of 25 on the 9th day of the tenth month of the year Fire Female Hog (me mo phag 1407 A.D.).
