buddho bhagavānsatkṛto gurukṛto mānitaḥ pūjito rājabhī rājamātrairdhanibhiḥ pauraiḥ śreṣṭhibhissārthavāhairdevairnāgairyakṣairasurairgaruḍaiḥ kinnarairmahoragairiti devanāgayakṣāsuragaruḍakinnaramahoragābhyarcito buddho bhagavān jñāto mahāpuṇyo lābhī cīvarapiṇḍapātaśayanāsanaglānapratyayabhaiṣajyapariṣkārāṇāṃ saśrāvakasaṅghaḥ kapilavastuni viharati nyagrodhārāme| kapilavastunyanyatamaḥ śākya āḍhyo mahādhano mahābhogo vistīrṇaviśālaparigraho vaiśravaṇadhanasamudito vaiśravaṇadhanaspardhī| tena sadṛśātkulātkalatramānītam| sa tayā sārdhaṃ krīḍati ramate paricārayati| tasya krīḍato ramamāṇasya paricārayataḥ patnī āpannasattvā saṃvṛttā| aṣṭānāṃ navānāṃ māsānāmatyayātprasūtā| dārako jāto 'bhinūpo darśanīyaḥ prāsādiko 'tikrātto mānuṣavarṇasaṃprāptaśca divyaṃ varṇaṃ jāmbūnadaniṣkasadṛśassuvarṇavarṇayā cānena prabhayā sarvaṃ kapilavastu nagaramavabhāsitam| taddarśanānmātāpitarāvanye ca kutūhalābhyāgatāssattvāḥ paraṃ vismayamāgatāścittayatti ca kuto 'yamīdṛśaḥ sattvaviśeṣa iti|| tasya jātau jātimahaṃ kṛtvā nāmadheyaṃ vyavasthāpyate kiṃ bhavatu dārakasya nāmeti| jñātaya ūcuḥ| yasmādanena jātena suvarṇavarṇayā prabhayā sarvaṃ kapilavastu nagaramavabhāsitaṃ tasmādbhavatu dārakasya suvarṇābha iti nāmeti|| suvarṇābho dārako 'ṣṭābhyo dhātrībhyo 'nupradatto dvābhyāmaṃsadhātrībhyāṃ dvābhyāṃ kṣīradhātrībhyāṃ dvābhyāṃ maladhātrībhyāṃ dvābhyāṃ krīḍanikābhyāṃ | so 'ṣṭābhirdhātrībhirunnīyate vardhyate kṣīreṇa dadhnā navanītena sarpiṣā sarpimaṇḍenānyaiścottaptottaptairupakaraṇaviśeṣairāśu vardhate hradasthamiva paṅkajam| sa ca paṇḍito vyakto medhāvī śrāddho bhadraḥ kalyāṇāśaya ātmahitaparahitapratipannaḥ kāruṇiko mahātmā dharmakāmaḥ||

yāvadapareṇa samayena nūpamadamatto bahiradhiṣṭhānasya krīḍati saṃbahulāśca śākyānyagrodhārāmaṃ gacchatti| tatastena suvarṇābhena dṛṣṭāḥ pṛṣṭāśca kka bhavatto gacchattīti| tairuktaṃ nyagrodhārāmaṃ gacchāmo buddhaṃ bhagavattaṃ draṣṭumiti|| suvarṇābhasya buddha ityaśrutapūrvaṃ nāma śrutvā sarvaromakūpāṇyāhṛṣṭāni paramaṃ ca kutūhalamutpannam| tasyaitadabhavat| yannvahamapi buddhaṃ bhagavattaṃ darśanāyopasaṃkrāmeyamiti| so 'pi nyagrodhārāmaṃ gacchati| tatastatra dadarśa suvarṇābhakumāro buddhaṃ bhagavattaṃ dvātriṃśatā mahāpuruṣalakṣaṇaiḥ samalaṅkṛtamaśītyā cānuvyañjanairvirājitagātraṃ vyāmaprabhālaṅkṛtaṃ sūryasahasrātirekaprabhaṃ jaṅgamamiva ratnaparvataṃ samattato bhadrakam| sahadarśanāccāsya nūpamadaḥ bhagavataḥ pādābhivandanaṃ kṛtvā purastānniṣaṇo dharmaśravaṇāya| tasya bhagavatā dharmo deśitaḥ| sa taṃ dharmaṃ śrutvā pravrajyābhilāṣī saṃvṛttaḥ| yāvanmātāpitarāvanujñāpya bhagavatsakāśamupasaṃkrāttaḥ| upasaṃkramya bhagavataḥ pādau śirasā vanditvā yena bhagavāṃstenāñjaliṃ praṇamayya bhagavattamidamavocat| labheyāhaṃ bhadatta svākhyāte dharmavinaye pravrajyāmupasaṃpadaṃ bhikṣubhāvaṃ careyamahaṃ bhagavato 'ttike brahmacaryamiti| tato bhagavāngajabhujasadṛśaṃ suvarṇavarṇabāhumabhiprasārya suvarṇābhadārakamidamavocat| ehi kumāra cara brahmacaryamiti|

ehīti coktassa tathāgatena muṇḍaśca saṅghāṭiparītadehaḥ|
sadyaḥ praśāttendriya eva tasthāvevaṃ sthito buddhamanorathena||

yāvatsaptāhāvaropitakeśaśmaśrurdvādaśavarṣopasaṃpanneryāpathaḥ pātrakaravyagrahasto bhagavataḥ purastātsthitaḥ|| tasya bhagavatā manasikāro dattaḥ| tena yujyamānena vyāyacchamānena ghaṭamānenedameva pañcagaṇḍakaṃ saṃsāracakraṃ calācalaṃ viditvā sarvasaṃskāragatīḥ śatanavikaraṇavidhvaṃsanadharmatayā parāhatya sarvakleśaprahāṇādarhattvaṃ sākṣātkṛtam| arhansaṃvṛttastraidhātuvītarāgassamaloṣṭakāñcana ākāśapāṇitalasamacitto vāsīcandanakalpo vidyāvidāritāṇḍakośo vidyābhijñāpratisaṃvitprāpto bhavalābhalobhasatkāraparāṅmukhassendropendrāṇāṃ devānāṃ pūjyo mānyo 'bhivādyaśca saṃvṛttaḥ||

bhikṣavaḥ saṃśayajātāḥ sarvasaṃśayacchettāraṃ bhagavattaṃ papracchuḥ| kāni bhadatta suvarṇabhena karmāṇi kṛtāni yenaivamabhinūpo darśanīyaḥ prāsādikaḥ pravrajya cācirarhattvaṃ sākṣātkṛtamiti|| bhagavānāha| suvarṇābhenaiva bhikṣavaḥ pūrvamanyāsu jātiṣu karmāṇi kṛtānyupacitāni labdhasaṃbhārāṇi pariṇatapratyayānyodhavatpratyupasthitānyavaśyaṃbhāvīni| suvarṇābhena karmāṇi kṛtānyupacitāni ko 'nyaḥ pratyanubhaviṣyati| na bhikṣavaḥ karmāṇi kṛtānyupacitāni bāhye pṛthivīdhātau vipacyatte nābdhātau na tejodhātau na vāyudhātāvapi tūpātteṣveva skandhadhātvāyataneṣu karmāṇi kṛtāni vipacyatte śubhānyaśubhāni ca|

na praṇaśyatti karmāṇi api kalpaśatairapi|
sāmagrīṃ prāpya kālaṃ ca phalatti khalu dehinām||

bhūtapūrvaṃ bhikṣavo 'tīte 'dhvani ekanavate kalpe vipaśyī nāma samyaksaṃbuddho loka udapādi vidyācaraṇasaṃpannassugato lokavidanuttaraḥ puruṣadamyasārathiḥ śāstā devamanuṣyāṇāṃ buddho bhagavān| sa bandhumatīṃ rājadhānīmupaniśritya viharati|| yāvadvipaśyī samyaksaṃbuddho buddhakāryaṃ kṛtvā indhanakṣayādivāgnirnirupadhiśeṣe nirvāṇadhātau parinirvṛtastato rājñā bandhumatā bhagavataḥ śarīre śarīrapūjāṃ kṛtvā samattayojanastūpaścaratnamayaḥ pratiṣṭhāpitaḥ krośamuccatvena stūpamahaśca prajñaptaḥ|| yāvadanyatamo gṛhapatistasminstūpamahe vartamāne nirgataḥ| tena tasmātstūpātsauvarṇavarṇa ādarśaḥ patito dṛṣṭaḥ| sa tenāvataṃsakaṃ kārayitvā tatra stūpe āropitaḥ| gandhadhūpapuṣpārcanaṃ kṛtvā pādayornipatya praṇidhānaṃ kṛtam| ahamapyevaṃvidhānāṃ guṇānāṃ lābhī bhaviṣyāmyevaṃvidhameva śāstāramārāgayeyamiti||

bhagavānāha| kiṃ manyadhve bhikṣavo yo 'sau tena kālena tena samayena gṛhapatirāsīdayaṃ sa suvarṇābhaḥ| yattena vipaśyinaḥ samyaksaṃbuddhasya stūpe kārāḥ kṛtāstenāsyaivaṃvidho nūpaviśeṣaḥ saṃvṛttaḥ| yatpraṇidhānaṃ kṛtaṃ tadihaiva janmanyarhattvaṃ sākṣātkṛtam| iti bhikṣava ekāttakṛṣṇānāṃ karmaṇāmekāttakṛṣṇo vipāka ekāttaśuklānāmekāttaśuklo vyatimiśrāṇāṃ vyatimiśrastasmāttarhi bhikṣava ekāttakṛṣṇāni karmāṇyapāsya vyatimiśrāṇi caikāttaśukleṣveva karmasvābhogaḥ karaṇīya ityevaṃ vo bhikṣavaḥ śikṣitavyam||
