Verse 4.42 - The lifetime of all Laukāntika deva

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of Tattvartha sūtra 4.42:

लौकान्तिकानामष्टौ सागरोपमाणि सर्वेषाम् ॥ ४.४२ ॥

laukāntikānāmaṣṭau sāgaropamāṇi sarveṣām || 4.42 ||

The lifetime of all ‘laukāntika’ deva is eight sāgaropama. (42)

Hindi Anvayarth:

अन्वयार्थ: समस्त लौकान्तिक देवों की उत्कृष्ट तथा जघन्य आयु आठ सागर की है।

Anvayartha: samasta laukantika devom ki utkrishta tatha jaghanya ayu atha sagara ki hai |

Explanation in English from Ācārya Pūjyapāda’s Sarvārthasiddhi:

Now special mention has been made of the ‘laukāntika’ deva. But their lifetime has not been particularized. How much is it?

All ‘laukāntika’ deva have lifetime of eight sāgaropama, and are of white (śukla) thought-colouration. Their stature is five cubit (hātha).
