The Upaniṣads are ancient philosophical and theological treatises. Out of the 108 Upanishads mentioned in the Muktikopanishad, 15 are classified as Saiva-Upanisads.
4. Classification of ‘Rudrākṣa’ into Classes
That Rudrākṣa was born on the earth at the express instructions of Lord Śiva in the form of different types of trees catering to the different needs and welfares of the different segments or classes of society.
Rudrākṣa with a white colour, of a red colour, a yellow colour and of black colour are prescribed according to the varṇāśrama respectively.[1]
