Verse 3.14.577
Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 3.14.577:
युक्तमौपयिकं राज्ञ इत्यर्थस्य निदर्शने ।
उपमानाविवक्षायां तदर्हमिति पठ्यते ॥ ५७७ ॥yuktamaupayikaṃ rājña ityarthasya nidarśane |
upamānāvivakṣāyāṃ tadarhamiti paṭhyate || 577 ||577. The rule tadarham (P. 51.117) is taught when no comparison is meant, when the meaning meant to be conveyed, (by rājavat) is: ‘suitable, appropriate’ to the king.
Commentary
[This rule is not necessary if comparison is meant. But when suitability or appropriateness is meant to be conveyed, it is needed, and the absence of something corresponding to it in the other systems of grammar only shows their incompleteness. Even in vaiyākaraṇavad brūhi, if appropriateness, not comparison, is meant, the suffix can come by P. 5.1.117.]
