Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 3.14.77:
यथैव डित्थे डयतिः पाचके पचतिस्तथा ।
डयतिश्च पचिश्रैव द्वावप्येतावलौकिकौ ॥ ७७ ॥yathaiva ḍitthe ḍayatiḥ pācake pacatistathā |
ḍayatiśca paciśraiva dvāvapyetāvalaukikau || 77 ||77. Ḍayati in Ḍittha is similar to pacati in pācaka. Both ḍayati and paci are unknown in the world.
Commentary
[In the matter of the fictitiousness of the parts, there is no difference between Yadṛcchā śabda = ‘arbitrary words’ like Ḍittha and those based on reason like pācaka. It is from the whole word that the meaning is understood in the world. Deriving Ḍittha from the root ḍayati which is meaningless is the same process as deriving pācaka from the root √pac which has a meaning.]
