Sanskrit text and transliteration:

अध्येति सर्वमध्येयमतोऽध्यायक उच्यते ।
क्षिप्रकार्यतिशायित्वादाशिष्ठोऽसौ भवेदतः ॥ ४९६ ॥

adhyeti sarvamadhyeyamato'dhyāyaka ucyate |
kṣiprakāryatiśāyitvādāśiṣṭho'sau bhavedataḥ || 496 ||

English translation of verse 2.496:

A person studies all that has to be studied and is, therefore, said to be adhyāyaka. Since he is the best among those who are quick in action, he is āśiṣṭha.

Notes:

This verse explains the meanings of the words adhyāyakaḥ and āśiṣṭhaḥ, which occur in the text. Adhyāyakaḥ means ādhītavedaḥ, one who has studied the Vedas.
