तृप्तिहेतू रसो नाम मधुराम्लादिलक्षणः ॥ ४२५ ॥

tṛptihetū raso nāma madhurāmlādilakṣaṇaḥ || 425 ||

English translation of verse 2.425:

Rasa in the form of sweetness, sourness, and so on, is the cause of satisfaction.

The word rasa primarily means flavour, distinctive taste such as sweetness, sourness, and the like.
