The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.5.118; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. श्वेतश् चित्रो’रुणः शोणः श्यामः पाण्डुर-पिङ्गलौ ।
गौरो धूम्रस् तथा रक्तः कालो नीतः क्रमाद् अमी ॥२.५.११८॥śvetaś citro’ruṇaḥ śoṇaḥ śyāmaḥ pāṇḍura-piṅgalau |
gauro dhūmras tathā raktaḥ kālo nītaḥ kramād amī ||2.5.118||
English translation
The twelve rasas have twelve colors as follows: white (śānta), multicolored (prīti), saffron (preyān or sakhya), crimson (vatsala), indigo (madhura), light yellow (hāsya), yellow-green (adbhuta), gold (vīra), purple (karuṇa), red (raudra), black (bhayānaka) and blue (bībhatsa).
