The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.5.80; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

यथा दध्य्-आदिकं द्रव्यं शर्करा-मरिचादिभिः ।
संयोजन-विशेषेण रसालाख्यो रसो भवेत् ॥२.५.८०॥

yathā dadhy-ādikaṃ dravyaṃ śarkarā-maricādibhiḥ |
saṃyojana-viśeṣeṇa rasālākhyo raso bhavet
||2.5.80||

English translation

“As yogurt becomes rasāla by mixing with other ingredients of sugar and pepper, the two types of rati become rasa by combination with the elements of vibhāva, anubhāva, sāttvika-bhāva and vyabhicārī-bhāva.
