The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.4.8; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

तत्र महार्त्या, यथा —
हन्त देह-हतकैः किम् अमीभिः
पालितैर् विफल-पुण्य-फलैर् नः ।
एहि कालिय-ह्रदे विष-वह्नौ
स्वं कुटुम्बिनि हठाज् जुहवाम ॥२.४.८॥

tatra mahārtyā, yathā —
hanta deha-hatakaiḥ kim amībhiḥ
pālitair viphala-puṇya-phalair naḥ |
ehi kāliya-hrade viṣa-vahnau
svaṃ kuṭumbini haṭhāj juhavāma
||2.4.8||

English translation

From great sorrow:
“O Yaśodā! What is to be gained from continuing to maintain this sinful, unfortunate body? Come! We will immediately offer our bodies in the lake of Kāliya filled with the fire of poison.”
