The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.3.47; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

अथ वैवर्ण्यम् —
विषाद-रोष-भीत्य्-आदेर् वैवर्ण्यं वर्ण-विक्रिया ।
भाव-ज्ञैर् अत्र मालिन्य-कार्श्याद्याः परिकीर्तिताः ॥२.३.४७॥

atha vaivarṇyam —
viṣāda-roṣa-bhīty-āder vaivarṇyaṃ varṇa-vikriyā |
bhāva-jñair atra mālinya-kārśyādyāḥ parikīrtitāḥ ||2.3.47||

English translation

Changing of color:
“Change of a person’s complexion (varṇya-vikriyā) due to grief, anger or fear is called vaivarṇya or change of color.”
