श्रुति-मात्रेण शब्दानां यत्रार्थ-प्रत्ययो भवेत् ।
साधारणं समग्राणां स प्रसादो गुणो मतः ॥ ८.७६॥
śruti-mātreṇa śabdānāṃ yatrārtha-pratyayo bhavet |
sādhāraṇaṃ samagrāṇāṃ sa prasādo guṇo mataḥ ||8.76||
śruti-mātreṇa—merely by hearing; śabdānām—of the words (or of the sounds); yatra—in which (prasāda); artha—of the meaning; pratyayaḥ—the understanding; bhavet—is; sādhāraṇam—something in common; samagrāṇām—to all; saḥ—that; prasādaḥ—is prasāda (clarity) (satisfaction); guṇaḥ—literary quality; mataḥ—is considered.
When the understanding of the meaning of the words occurs simply by hearing, that is prasāda-guṇa. It is common to all.
samagrāṇāṃ rasānāṃ samāsānāṃ saṅghaṭanānāṃ ca prasādasya sarvatropayogān na varṇa-gato niyamaḥ.
Prasāda is common to all the rasas, to all the styles of compounding, and to all the phonetic combinations. There is no rule that prasāda involves certain phonemes because it applies everywhere.
