chando-bhaṅga-bhayān nijecchā-kṛtas tu sakṛd eveti tathobhayaṃ darśitam. sa codayati tigmāṃśur nidrāṃ subhrv adhunā tyaja. atra codayatīti sandher aślīlatvam. subhrveti tu kaṣṭatvam.

Examples of aślīla-visandhi (unpleasant phonetic combination) and kaṣṭa-visandhi (harsh phonetic combination) are as follows: sa codayati tigmāṃśur nidrāṃ subhrv adhunā tyaja, “Beautiful girl, the sun is rising. Stop sleeping.” Here the phonetic combination codayati (ca udayati) is an unpleasant phonetic combination (because coda means whip). The fault of kaṣṭa-visandhi is in “subhrv a”.
