ऋ॒तस्य॒ तन्तु॒र्वित॑तः प॒वित्र॒ आ जि॒ह्वाया॒ अग्रे॒ वरु॑णस्य मा॒यया॑ । धीरा॑श्चि॒त्तत्स॒मिन॑क्षन्त आश॒तात्रा॑ क॒र्तमव॑ पदा॒त्यप्र॑भुः ॥
ऋतस्य तन्तुर्विततः पवित्र आ जिह्वाया अग्रे वरुणस्य मायया । धीराश्चित्तत्समिनक्षन्त आशतात्रा कर्तमव पदात्यप्रभुः ॥
ṛtasya tantur vitataḥ pavitra ā jihvāyā agre varuṇasya māyayā | dhīrāś cit tat saminakṣanta āśatātrā kartam ava padāty aprabhuḥ ||
English translation:
“The threads of the sacrifice spread over the filter extends by its act to the tip of Varuṇa's tongue; the wise approaching reached it;but he who is incompetent for the rite sinks (to hell) even in this world.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
Varuṇa's tongue: i.e., the vasatīvarī waters, which are on the tip of Varuṇa's tongue; the wise...reached it: 'it' refers to the tip of Varuṇa's tongue; the wise reach it by their praises or oblations.
