तव॒ त्ये अ॑ग्ने अ॒र्चयो॒ महि॑ व्राधन्त वा॒जिन॑: । ये पत्व॑भिः श॒फानां॑ व्र॒जा भु॒रन्त॒ गोना॒मिषं॑ स्तो॒तृभ्य॒ आ भ॑र ॥
तव त्ये अग्ने अर्चयो महि व्राधन्त वाजिनः । ये पत्वभिः शफानां व्रजा भुरन्त गोनामिषं स्तोतृभ्य आ भर ॥
tava tye agne arcayo mahi vrādhanta vājinaḥ | ye patvabhiḥ śaphānāṃ vrajā bhuranta gonām iṣaṃ stotṛbhya ā bhara ||
English translation:
“These your flames Agni, fed with abundant food, increase, as, by their descent, they seek the pastures of the hoofed cattle; bring, Agni, food to your adorers.”
Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya
They seek the pastures: ye patvabhiḥ śaphānām vrajā bhuranta gonām: ye raśmayaḥ, those rays which patanaiḥ by fallings, icchanti yūthāni śaphānām gonām, wish for or proceed to the herds of hoofed cattle; the spreading flames long for the burnt-offerings, ayata jvālā homāya kāṅkṣanti ityarthaḥ
